"I know how disappointing it will be for everyone that the game hasn't gone ahead, but we totally support the decision that's been made. "When I spoke with the prime minister of Pakistan I conveyed our thanks for taking care of the New Zealand Cricket team," she said. Mr Umar added: "Frankly, we're all lost."īut Ms Ardern said that while the cancellation was disappointing, she supported the decision to pull out. He went on: "The security arrangements that are made are exceptionally high-level arrangements and with Imran Khan the prime minister, being the cricketer that he is, has personal interest in the matter and you can imagine the kind of priority that was assigned to this." Pakistan government minister Asad Umar told Sky News: "It's rather perplexing why they would not share details with the Pakistan authorities, so the Pakistan authorities do not know what specifically the threat was supposedly about. "The security officials with the New Zealand team have been satisfied with security arrangements made by the Pakistan government throughout their stay here," the statement went on. Mr Khan apparently told Ms Ardern that Pakistan has "one of the best intelligence systems in the world and that no security threat of any kind exists for the visiting team". Pakistan's prime minister, Imran Khan, has spoken to Jacinda Ardern, his counterpart in New Zealand, the PCB said in a statement. NZC said it would not be commenting on the "details of the security threat nor the updated arrangements for the departing squad". This app is just like the ECB, getting worse every year, forcing you to follow scores and matches of teams you’ve absolutely no interest in and doesn’t do anything to really help supporters.Image: Pakistan's Usman Qadir bowls during a practice session at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday. The market is wide open for a developer to produce a really simple cricket scores app, just select your team, county, country, select the competitions to follow and you’ll have me downloading it. You used to be able to select the exact tournaments included on the scores page, but now you can’t. Think the hundred will be the death of the smaller county you’ve been following all your life? Deselected that competition in the settings? Haha! Nuts to you, the ECB will force you to see the scores of this travesty of a competition. Have a favourite team? Expect the app to show that team at the top of the scores page - nope. It used to be nice and clear, but now it isn’t. The font size is so small, you can barely read the scores. If there was any other cricket scores app wort it’s salt, I’d use it but I’m stuck due to lack of alternatives. English cricket officials provoked an angry response from Pakistan after withdrawing their mens and womens teams from a limited-over trip to the Asian country next month, citing 'increasing. Just like the ECB, this gets worse and worse.

Set in Las Vegas, the video shows them on a date, driving a 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible through the desert, "making out on a pool table, and taking a helicopter trip". It juxtaposes tableaus of the Great Basin Desert in Nevada with black-and-white shots of Miguel and his real-life girlfriend, actress and model Nazanin Mandi. Andrew Ryce from Pitchfork Media cited it as a "standout" on the album and commented that it "unfolds in an ethereal cloud of synth, voices streaming like angelic choirs before stumbling into a verse buoyed by its own euphoria." The website's Carrie Battan called "Do You." "one of Miguel's best songs also his glibbest". In MSN Music, Robert Christgau found the lyric "Do you like drugs?" to be one of "the two most memorable lines" on Kaleidoscope Dream, while Kevin Ritchie of Now cited "Do You." as the album's best song. Club said the song "spins the ostensibly sleazy pickup line 'Do you like drugs?' into an irresistibly sweet proposal, imagining lovely, perfectly wasted afternoons spent in a content daze." Erin Thompson of Seattle Weekly called it a "fabulous song" and felt that "Miguel's smooth, subtle swagger is so appealing that a line like 'I wanna do you like drugs tonight' comes off as audacious instead of offensive." Rob Tannenbaum of Rolling Stone quipped, "Just when you thought there were no new ways to say 'I love you'". On the R&B Songs chart, "Do You." spent 24 weeks and peaked at number 10. It also charted for 19 weeks and reached number 24 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. It spent eight weeks on the chart, peaking at number 32 in the week of January 26, 2013. "Do You." was originally featured on Kaleidoscope Dream: The Air Preview, which was released on September 11, 2012, as the second in a three-part series of EPs released by Miguel to preview Kaleidoscope Dream. It's the stuff of unbearable rom-com montages, but Miguel's playful delivery brings it over. Not many singers could get away with lines like 'What about matinee movies'. Miguel melismatizes with three syllables at the end of each question, before he replies with "Well, me too." He evokes a romantic relationship with simple, imagistic lyrics: "What about matinee movies, pointless secrets / Midnight summer swims, private beaches / Rock, paper, scissors. Ī wooing love song, "Do You." poses flirtatious, rhetorical questions such as "Do you like hugs?" and "Do you like love?". The song begins with an echoed haze and acoustic guitar, with Miguel asking, "Have you ever felt alone?" It is then followed by a euphoric vocal reverb that leads to blasting drums, and Miguel asks "Do you like drugs" over a smooth guitar riff. Chris Kelly of Fact categorizes it as an atmospheric pop rock song, while Mesfin Fekadu of the Associated Press calls it "a mellow R&B outtake". "Do You." is built around gentle guitar strumming and a playful rhythm section, featuring a walking bassline and double-time drums. The song features slap bass by Duplessis. It was recorded at Platinum Sound Recording Studios in New York City and mixed by engineer Manny Marroquin at Larrabee Studios in North Hollywood. "Do You." was written by Miguel, producer Jerry Duplessis, co-producer Arden Altino, and guitarist Paul Pesco. Jerry Duplessis produced and co-wrote the song. He performed "Do You." on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and incorporated elements of Bob Marley's " Stir It Up" into the song in his other concert performances. A music video for the song was filmed in Las Vegas and showed Miguel and his girlfriend Nazanin Mandi on an intimate date. It was well received by music critics, who praised Miguel's playful delivery and cited it as a highlight on Kaleidoscope Dream. Its lyrics pose flirtatious, rhetorical questions and feature both metaphorical and literal references to narcotics, inspired in part by Miguel's occasional use of MDMA.Īs a single, "Do You." charted for eight weeks on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, peaking at number 32. I think the vast majority of people would say the likes of Forest Frenzy, Northern Hemispheres, and Ice Cave Chant are more essential to DKC1's identity than the Wrinkly and Brother Bear tunes are for DKC3 SNES. I feel like music is naturally a very emotional thing and something where the amount or length of tracks doesn't tell the whole story. The legacy of Novakovic's role in the series far outstrips its actual size. You're nucking futs (I mean that affectionately) for not liking their work on Impossible Lair. If we absolutely can't have Wise, then I pick Matt Griffin and Dan Murdoch, his heirs apparent. You can't deny that Proper DK Music has certain idiosyncratic qualities, and while I technically agree that we don't need a Wise imitator, we do need someone who understands that. Neither did Yamamoto's (the only original tunes in DKC Returns that actually sound like they belong there are Mast Blast and Sticky Situation even some of his remixes sound wrong, like Palm Tree Groove). Grant Kirkhope's didn't (Grant is an amazing composer, definitely as good as Wise, but his style is too animated for DK). It has the same spirit, for lack of a better word. Novakovic's music is not an imitation of Wise's, but it sounds like DK music. Neither Novakovic nor Yamamoto did this, and in fact have styles of their own that are probably easier to nail down (at least, I'd find it easier to copy them). It's the best imitation I've heard yet, but the thing is, you don't need to and shouldn't have to imitate David Wise to do DKC music. Fool that I am, I didn't look too closely and just expected it would be entirely in katakana for memory and readability reasons. The font really mangles the hiragana, and the game actually uses kanji. On a separate note, I took screenshots of 42 lines of Japanese Cranky dialogue last night, but it's been way harder to translate than I expected it to be. Take her as proof others can do it, sure, but at a certain point holding onto her is as much being stuck in the past as holding onto Wise.Īlso, I adore DKC3 GBA and did not get anything out of Impossible Lair's OST at all, but I suppose that's neither here nor there. It'd be cool if they asked her to come back for old time's sake and she said yes, but wildly unrealistic. And that's all well and good, but she did music for like four games total over the course of four years and has been retired for decades since. I feel like she's become something to hold up as proof that "someone else can do it right", because of her being there from the beginning, probably in the wake of Returns making people wary of a DKC without Wise (I maintain Kenji Yamamoto was an inspired choice, but in hindsight he was never going to work out because of how the Metroid Prime soundtracks were structured and produced vs. Saying Wise did 3/5 is definitely underselling it, it's much closer to 2/3, especially accounting for the actual compositions in DKC3 being noticeably short compared to those in all of the other games. It's a minor in-joke that people don't know Eveline even exists, but Wise contributed more tracks to 3 SNES than she did to the first game. Speaking of Playtonic though, Impossible Lair shows it's perfectly possible to have multiple composers on a team stick to a style guide and make a wonderful OST that isn't just All David Wise All The Time while still being in his style. I adore his work on Tropical Freeze and tracks he's done for Playtonic. I'm sure it would have sounded better on a more powerful platform that could have handled the mixing and fading he apparently intended, but as it stands he didn't take the GBA's limitations into account for the composition.Īnd that isn't to say he's a bad composer. The music doesn't match the level tones at all and is more ambitious than the system can handle. Like, Wise's stuff is good but he often gets rose-tinted credit for the entirety of the SNES DKC trilogy ost when he only did like 3/5 of it? Evelyn did a chunk of DKC1 as well as the entirety of DKC3, and yes I know Wise did the GBA DKC3 ost but frankly it's kinda meh.
